Pure Water Bottle

This is not a fancy looking french press, but a really innovative (and compact) water filtration system. This is how it works:

Pure contains two chambers. Dirty water is scooped up from a lake, stream or dirty puddle by the outer chamber. The inner chamber is then plunged through it, filtering water particles as small as four microns. Once filtered, the water is sterilized by a wind-up ultraviolet bulb

It’s a purely self-sufficient system, no messy tablets and boiling required. Perfect item to have to survive a zombie apocalypse, for example. Kudos to Timothy Whitehead of Loughborough University for this awesome design. I am pretty sure we’ll see it in market soon!

This is one furniture I’d like to have in my place! Definitely a conversation starter when you have people over. It look pretty simple to make though, all i need is to find some old skateboards…

UK power plug redesigned

I went to Royal College of Art’s graduate show before in the 2008, and I remembered how all the exhibitions there blew my mind. But this one is on a different level. Because unlike most of the items showcased at the show, I can really see this being used by consumers. It’s simple, minimalistic and practical. A good example of what one can get when design and technology works together. Well done Min-Kyu Choi (the designer), I hope to see the plug adopted in grand scale now!

But here’s the catch… power plugs usually comes with electrical appliances, and since not many of us are trained electricians, we wouldn’t attempt to upgrade the plugs ourselves. So in order for this product to enter the market for consumer usage, it is the manufacturers of the mentioned electrical appliances that needs to adopt this neat piece of plug… We’ll have to just keep our fingers crossed on this.
